You’ve dreamed about this day from the time you were a little girl. In your head you pictured this magical day with lavish decor and possibly even a horse drawn carriage, but what you didn’t know at the time is – WEDDINGS ARE EXPENSIVE! Yes, I said it! Yes, I work in the wedding industry (and I’m probably not supposed to say that), but I am not oblivious to the insane amount of money it takes to host a wedding.
The costs that couples and their families put into the perfect wedding day is one of the many reasons that our job as wedding photographers is so important! Wedding photography is one of the most ‘high-stakes’ forms of photography and it’s also why most photographers either specialize in it, or do not do it at all – because it takes a lot of focus and hard work to give brides the ‘picture-perfect’ wedding experience!
A lot of our brides come to us with a budget in mind for photography and sometimes their budgets are a little under our packages, so this inspired me to blog ways that you can cut wedding expenses in other areas that won’t ultimately leave you with an inexperienced photographer that isn’t your style!
So, here are our top ideas for cutting your wedding day budget immediately, in order to hire the photographer of your dreams!
5. Skip the favors!
Instead of spending a few hundred dollars on little bags of chocolates on each reception table, focus more on showing your guests a good time through the experience they will have at your wedding! After all you are giving them free food, cake, and drinks for the evening!
4. Choose flowers that are in season!
Choosing flowers that are in season will save you hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars when it comes to making bouquets, boutonnieres, arches, center pieces, etc. Even consider using baby’s breath and ivy for extra decor and cost savings!
3. Narrow down the guest list!
On average you can assume that each guest costs about $100. Therefore if you can cut 20 acquaintances (you know the people you are inviting because you feel like you HAVE to) you can easily save $2,000! This is the easiest and most effective way to bring down your wedding budget!
2. Cutting the cake!
See what I did there with the witty subtitle? Choose a beautiful two or three tiered cake that you love then have the cake baker make a few sheet cakes to cut and serve when it’s time for dessert! Try to go with icing rather than fondant, not only does icing taste better – it is usually less expensive, too! Such a simple way to save a few hundred bucks!
1. Have an off-season wedding!
This is the easiest way to save money on your wedding day! The truth is off-season weddings costs a lot less. For us an off-season wedding is any date booked November-February and we instantly give a 15% discount on all of our packages just for getting married in one of those months. Most vendors offer discounts for off-season or non-Saturday weddings, so once you start adding up all the savings from multiple vendors you can save thousands, upon thousands just by a well-chosen wedding date!
We hope these tips help you with your wedding planning journey and allow you to hire the vendors of your dreams while cutting costs in the areas that won’t make a huge impact on your wedding day!
