Last week we shared a social media post where I showed you two vastly different photos taken at the exact same time during an important moment of a wedding. One shot was mine (the main shot as the primary shooter) and the second shot was Jason’s (the secondary shot). We got a lot of interested feedback from that post so we decided to dive more in-depth into the topic!
A lot of photographers offer a second shooter on your wedding day, but why is this important? Does it really matter if there are two photographers? Does it matter who is second shooting, etc? This blog is hopefully going to show you why it is important to not only have a second shooter for your wedding day, but why it is important that the team you hire knows how to work together quickly, efficiently, and in a way that is going to give you a seamless wedding gallery with gorgeous photos.
Jason and I have been working together for about 6 years (I’ve been shooting for 8) and not only have we just been working together, but we’re married – so to say we know each other pretty well would be an understatement. All of Jason’s photography training has come from me, meaning that he shoots EXACTLY the way I shoot and operates the same way I do on a wedding day. Another huge asset of working with your spouse is there is no one else that would care as much about our JWP couples and our business as he and I do together, we both are very vested into what we’re doing.
On a wedding day I no longer have to even tell Jason what I need from him – he knows. He knows the shots he is responsible for, he already knows if I am shooting wide or tight and knows how to shoot to compliment what I am shooting. He knows what lenses I need before I even ask for them and what angles to shoot based on where I am shooting. His experience by my side on a wedding day is invaluable!
To give you an idea of my shots versus his shots on a wedding day I am going to share some shots that he is taking at the exact same time I am shooting – so one moment, two photos, two perspectives, one story! Here we go!
When I am shooting bridal detail shots, Jason spends his time shooting the venue and decor details – so these photos were also taken at the same time!
We’d love to hear what you think about this topic! Leave us some love!
xoxo,
Jasmine
